The tourist scene here is an Oasis of adventure, sprawled within the legacy of one of the planets great natural wonders, the Mosi Oa Tunya, Smoke which Thunders, Victoria Falls.
It had never been seen before by European eyes; but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight. Dr David Livingstone
Below the falls the Batoka gorge forms a meandering and epic border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Relentlessly charging through its depths is the destructive force from which it was formed. Crashing through layers of basalt rock the Zambezi River has been sculpting a geologically unique landscape for 180 million years. This epic river plunges into it its dynamic zenith through steep gorge walls and uncompromising cataracts. Down here it’s a heaven for rare and endemic species of flora and fauna which along with ancient spirits hum a tune of contentment in this enigmatic profundity of nature. The upper stage of the gorge also lures people into its gothic depths. For those locals wily enough to negotiate its cliff walls the gorge is a well of resources, nourished by the rivers incessant flow. For those so intrepid of heart, brave of sole and wild of spirit to navigate its waters the Batoka gorge promises an adventure of prehistoric grandeur.
